After a really successful year racing and winning the 2011 season long British Cycling Elite Circuit Series, Dean Downing is off to the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco as guest rider of on a week long traverse by bike, trekking and mule.

Downing, who won the Tour Series race in Exeter City centre in 2009 and 2010, was invited by Alistair Cope of Velo Ventures who are based in Seaton, Devon and with business contacts in Marrakech.

Alistair commented “I’m delighted that Dean is joining us on one of our tours, Morocco is a stunningly beautiful country and culturally contrasting to our own, yet only a few hours flight away. We keep our group size really small and that allows us to be accepted by the small Berber communities on route”.

Downing said “I’m so looking forward to this trip, I told some of my mates who ride MTB most of the winter and they are jealous”. Deano will be using all his biking skills in the remote areas of the High Atlas on a route that reaches 3000m at one point and with some massive downhill sections, one of which lasts for about 15 km. The traverse is fully supported by 4x4 and accommodation varies from small traditional homes to one nights camping. You can get further details by contacting Alistair at
