The closest finishes of the pony racing season so far got the Dartmoor Point to point off to a cracking start at Flete Park. Both races kept the judges on their toes with the 138s setting the tone. Favourite Talponciau Perfect Print (Barnaby Treneer) had misbehaved at the start and missed the break so the pace was set by Bronze Lawrance (Hannah Welch) with Ravara Super Ted (Pippa Glanville), Bejowans Bouquet (Heidi Lewis) and Newook Second Thought (Victoria Sleep). TPP soon caught up and the bunch were locked in battle down past the open ditch, and as they approached the run through with about a furlong and a half to go. Round the final marker Bronze Lawrance, Talponciau Perfect Print and Ravara Super Ted broke away and were neck and neck as they fought it out on the run in, with Bronze Lawrence first, ahead of Talponciau Perfect Print and Ravara Super Ted. The 148s was similarly close and any one of three ponies could have won with a furlong to go. Bryony Frost was having her first race ride on her new pony Tarka and she looked poised for victory at one stage but Flareon (Chloe Grove) and Ivory Girl (Henry Armstrong) were having none of it and moved ahead to challenge after passing the open ditch. Around the final bend the result was still in doubt and all three were locked together in the final stages, Ivory Girl getting the verdict by a length from Flareon with Tarka two lengths back in third.Results138: 1, Bronze Lawrance, Hannah Welch; 2, Talponciau Perfect Print, Barnaby Treneer; 3.
