At the recent Lyme Regis Bowls Club Dinner and Presentation Evening, the captain’s plate was awarded to Dave Wood, writes Paul Moffitt.

This trophy is presented by the captain, Philip Stephens, to a club member who he feels has contributed to the running of the club over and above the norm.

There can surely be no argument that Dave was that person during 2013.

Not only did he very ably assist Philip as vice captain, but was ever present to help and assist his wife Sue who was our very hardworking catering manager.

Our outgoing lady captain, Ann Allman, has told me that the club raised over £1300 for local charities.

Julia’s House received £160; Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance £160; Weldmar Hospice Care £427.58 and Alzheimers Research-Dementia £640.69.

For a small club this total was certainly impressive!

At the ladies’ AGM, the position of lady captain for the forthcoming year was decided in a close run vote between three candidates.

It all means that Jan Parsons will be captain with Angela Rattenbury as vice captain.
