Exeter City legend Dean Moxey rolled back the years with a calm penalty to confirm Torquay United’s place in the National League Play-Off Final.
Moxey, 35, joined the Gulls last summer after calling time on his second spell with the Grecians and the experienced left-back has been a vital cog in the Torquay machine under Gary Johnson’s management.
In a thrilling game at Plainmoor, Danny Wright opened the scoring for Torquay inside the first minute but visitors Notts County drew level before half-time.
Wright restored the Torquay lead before County replied again, sending the game into extra-time and a test of endurance in the afternoon sunshine.
Veteran Asa Hall gave Torquay the lead for a third time and Moxey was the man to seal a 4-2 victory, keeping his cool with an accomplished spot-kick.
Moxey and the Gulls now move forward to the final on Sunday, when they will face Hartlepool at Bristol City’s Ashton Gate.
