Honiton’s Tuesday mixed competition saw the mist hang around the course for most of the morning - then it cleared thankfully - just in time for the 2nd year of the Banks Trophy to be played, writes Andy Wagner.

This Trophy was presented by Geoff Banks in memory of his wife Sheila as together they ran these popular Mixed Tuesday competitions for many years.

The format was treble six. This year’s winners were Catherine Doherty and Jason Gosling with 41points. In second place with 40 points were Andrea Squire and one of last year’s holder of the trophy John Dickinson.

Third was lady captain Pam Greenaway and Phil Wall with 39 points whilst fourth spot went to Lesley Farley and Andy Sharland with 38 points after count back was used to separate them from Jan Dickinson and Laurie Tollemache who were placed fifth.

Geoff then presented his Trophy to the winning pair and then - being persuaded by the members - he told one of his golfing jokes that was always part of his presentation!
