An individual Stableford qualifier off the back tees is normally a tough test but warm, still conditions greeted the gentlemen of Honiton on Sunday morning which meant some low scores and highly enjoyable golf were possible.

Winning Division 1, with 39 points off an 8 handicap, was Jeff Peace, with Terry Dimond second with a creditable 38.

Rising to the top on countback of a long list of 37s was Barry Wilkinson.

The Handicap Secretary began to salivate when the Division 2 scores were announced, it being dominated by Bob Hill with a massive 41 points, beating Ben Barton by four clear points into second. Roger Davies continued his run of good form to finish in third on 36.

Tuesday's Mixed competition was played under blue skies with bright sunshine. This week's format was Foursomes Medal, steady play being the order of the day.

The winners, with a net 67, were Andrea Squire and Mike Watts. Second, with a net 74, were Olwen and Bill Eaton. Third, with net 75.5, were Sheila Banks and Paul Witton, and fourth, with net 77.5 were Jane Watts and Stan Squire.

Congratulations were extended to Dot Grove who had a "hole in one" on the 12th.

This week the Ladies played for the Del Cup. This is a 36-hole Stableford competition played over two days. The winner was the lady captain Sue Selway with 69pts (33+36), closely followed by the runner up Chris Pearce with 68 pts(31+37).

The second round incorporated the August Stableford. Results were: Silver Division -, Chris Pearce 37pts; 2, Sue Selway 36pts.

Bronze 1: 1, Linda Northover 37pts; 2, Catherine Doherty 35pts on c/b; 3, Chris Luttman, 35pts.

Bronze 2: 1, Sharon Dacre 39pts; 2, Rosemary Whiteley 36pts; 3, Jean Moon 35pts.

The Courtney Harris Final has been played. This is a Foursomes Medal competition played earlier in the year with the best 16 pairs going through to matchplay final.

The final was a closely fought match between lady captain Sue Selway and Henrietta Bradshaw against ladies' competition secretary Sue Ritchie and Linda Northover. Sue and Henrietta eventually won on the 20th hole.
