GYMNAST Douglas Fordyce, 19, from Wilmington, and his new gymnastic partner Edward Upcott are the new Senior British Men's Pair Champions in the discipline of Acrobatic Gymnastics. Douglas only joined Spelthorne Elite Gymnastics Club from King Edmund Gymnastics Club in Bristol nine weeks ago, so this result is superb testament to the hard work and dedication put in by both gymnasts and coaches. Douglas is no stranger to winning medals as he has won many regional and national titles and has one World Championship title under his belt already. The new Champions have a busy year ahead of them as they focus on the selection process for the World Games in Kaohsiung in July and the European Acrobatic Championships in Portugal in September.Douglas has taken some time out before going to university to concentrate on gymnastics and juggles this with a job and travelling to Middlesex. He receives no funding from sports funds and is desperately seeking a sponsor or sponsors to enable him to carry on. It is hoped that Acrobatic Gymnastics may be included in the 2012 Olympics so Douglas would be eligible for selection. If anyone feels they can help Douglas please contact his parents on (01404) 831764.
