Throughout the past two season’s the Lyme Regis Golf Club management committee have made significant improvements to both the course and to the general appearance of the club greens and fairways. In addition to what some would describe as “mischievous” placing of additional features and obstacles on the course, the emphasis has been very much on the improvement of information for visitor and club member alike.

There has been an improvement to the signage to the tees and the placement of a chart of each hole on each of the tees to assist golfers in strategy, made possible by the generous sponsorship of local businesses and club members. Additionally, the entrance to the club has been significantly enhanced by the hard work of club member Mike Hankey in the removal of excessive foliage at the entrance and the creation of attractive flower beds. An events notice board also displays the planned programme for the forthcoming two weeks, made possible through the sponsorship of Royston and Emma Davies, of Lyme Regis Holidays.

Seniors golf

On November 1,with a heavy dew still on the ground and a slight chill in the air, 77 club seniors took to the course to contest the monthly stableford competition. As the day progressed the temperature rose and the dew evaporated to give improved distance from the tee and run along the ground. Although some found the recent growth of grass on the greens difficult to handle, scores were, in the main highly respectable. None more so than that carded by the new club captain Ray Farrell who recorded a 4 below handicap 40 points to win division 1. Close behind were John Chance and Brian Clark with 38 points. John achieving second place on countback. Division 2 was won by David Newell with 37 points followed by Bill Giles in second place on countback and Max Thorner in third with a level par 36 points.
