Valuable runs by lower-order batsmen Cameron Evans-Grainger and James Pickard turned likely defeat into an important victory for Sidmouth at Paignton as runs flowed in the sunshine in the Devon Cricket League.
Isaac Thomas followed up his maiden century the previous weekend with 42 and Henry Gater scored 35, but it was No.7 Evans-Grainger (45no) and No.9 Pickard (22) who really carried Sidmouth to 236-9.
They needed every one of those runs, for Paignton got to within ten runs of the target before they were bowled out (226) with three balls to go, with the wickets shared around.
Wicketkeeper Evans-Grainger also pulled off three brilliant stumpings, as Luke Bess's men moved up to fourth in the Premier Division.
Champions Tiverton Heathcoat are the new leaders with 85pts, ahead of Paignton (83), but only eleven points cover third-placed Sandford (78) down to Bovey Tracey (67) in eighth. Sidmouth, who host local rivals Exmouth this Saturday, are on 74.
Three notable centuries at the weekend were by Exeter's Tom Lammonby, Clyst St George's Andrew Donovan and Matt Taylor of Alphington & Countess Wear.
Lammonby's 111no against Cornwood came only seven days after the Somerset all-rounder had hit another match-winning 'ton' against Exmouth.
Donovan's 169 came off 116 balls (he also took 4-32) for the new C Division East leaders against Whimple.
And Exeter City manager Taylor slammed 145no in an Alphington total of 308-4 against Uplyme & Lyme Regis in D East - 525 runs were scored on the day!
