East Devon swimmers star for Chard

East Devon members of Chard and District Swimming Club travelled to Cardiff International 50m pool to compete in the Exeter City Swimming Club Level 1 meet, where many swimmers achieved South West Regional Qualifying times (SWRQT) or South West consideration times (SWRct).

A new club record was awarded to Lauren Harrison, 13, in the 800m freestyle (14 yrs and under time of 10-28.48) which earned a bronze medal.

Other individual wins went to Luke van den Barselaar (200m backstroke), Jake Hallam (50m butterfly), and Charlie Kendall (50m backstroke) for their respective age groups.

Luke van den Barselaar, 15, had a great weekend, winning gold in the 200m backstroke (SWRQT of 2-22.11) as well as a silver medal in the 50m backstroke (SWRQT of 30.28); a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke (SWRQT of 1-05.20) and, in the 50m freestyle, he achieved a SWRct of 26.50 with sixth place. In the 200m I/M, he obtained a SWRct of 2-30.28 finishing eighth. Luke also secured seventh place in the 50m butterfly.

Jake Hallam, 14, won gold in the 50m butterfly event (SWRQT of 27.48) and received a silver medal in the 100m butterfly with a SWRQT of 1-02.61; finished fourth in both the 200m I/M (SWRQT of 2-22.53) and 100m breaststroke (SWRct of 1-14.55) grabbing fifth in the 100m freestyle and seventh in the 50m freestyle.

Abigail Dare, 13, achieved a silver medal in the 50m backstroke (SWRQT 33.80) and achieved a SWRct in the 200m backstroke (2-40.28) finishing in seventh place. In the 50m butterfly, Abigail achieved fourth and in the 100m backstroke came fifth.

Hannah Pullinger, 15, achieved fifth place in the 50m freestyle (SWRct of 29.12); obtaining two sixth places in the 100m freestyle (SWRct of 1-03.52) and in 50m breaststroke.

Tamsin Edge, 10, grabbed a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke and fourth place in the 200m breaststroke.

Charlie Kendall, 10, won gold in the 50m backstroke and came fourth in both the 200m I/M and 200m breaststroke.

Ben Fowler, 14, secured two sixth places in the 100m and 200m backstroke events with Lewis Pearson, 11, also obtaining sixth place in the 200m freestyle.

Daniella Edge, and Mollie Simpson also competed in this very tough Level 1 meet, achieving some personal best times.

The next competition for all members of Chard and District Swimming Club is the Somerset Age Group Championships which will be held over three weekends during February/early March.
