Eleanor Wood flies the AVR flag highest at Lustleigh Show 10k

On a very warm and sunny Bank Holiday Monday, three Axe Valley Runners made the trip to the Lustleigh Show 10k on the east side of Dartmoor, writes Dave Mutter.

For those of you who have never been to the Lustleigh Show, you have missed a real treat with the equestrian events, dog show, hawking display and many other attractions and side shows for the whole family.

The 10k starts and finishes amongst a throng of visitors to the show and runs mostly along lanes and tracks whilst negotiating quite a few hills. The race was won by Exeter Harrier Anthony Hatchard in 38.21. First AVR home was Eleanor Wood in exactly - to the very second - the same time as last year 49.19! That must be some sort of record. She was fifth Lady overall and first vet 55, 38th out of a field of 132 runners. Next in was Paul Tolchard finishing 93rd in 59.42, followed by Rick Wood, 100th in his slowest ever 10k time of 65.15. Well done, and thanks to the organisers for a most enjoyable country show experience.
