The popular Axe Vale point to point pony races, on April 26, will change this year and hold their 138 race first (noon). Previously the 148 race has had to be held first due to traffic backing up in the road, waiting to cross the course. But this year the 138s will start in the usual place by the barn (8-9f), with the 148s having a maximum distance race, starting next to the first point to point fence and completing just over a circuit, which means a minimal hold up for cars. Clerk of the course Chris Holmes said: "We are keen to encourage the junior jockeys to start to learn to ride a race, rather than just go flat out from the off. We hope that they will enjoy riding the extra distance."Pony entries close with entries secretary Claire Wright on Saturday - for details call her on 01598 710495. They cost £15 with cheques to be made out to The Axe Vale Hunt. Please enclose an SAE and please note that entries cannot be made via email. No responsibility will be taken for entries sent by email as they may not be picked up before the deadline.
