Big thanks are due to great supporter and pony race parent George Welch who stepped in at the VERY last moment to commentate on the races at Upcott Cross. When the jockeys were getting on their ponies in the paddock, secretary Mike Clark broke the news that commentator Mark Dennis was still 30 minutes away! After a brief moment of panic amongst organisers as the ponies went to post, George volunteered his services He was able to fill in racegoers with details of each pony's performance on the way to the start and it was great to hear his enthusiastic commentary - especially 'BRONZE LAWRANCE (the Welch family pony) IS IN THE LEAD!!'He was so enthralled with the experience that he gamely kept the microphone on for the 148 race, despite Mark Dennis's appearance, and is now reading up on the form as he is hoping to commentate on the final at Umberleigh. Well done, George and many thanks.
