Abbie Hughes, dressage and event rider based at Luppitt, won the BYRDS (British Young Riders Dressage Squad) A Squad Inter Regional competition at Keysoe, Bedfordshire last weekend.

Abbie and her horse, Weronella, owned by Christine Channing, scored a remarkable 96 per cent (68.7 out of 70) after two intense days of competition.

Weronella has just started competing at Prix St George with Abbie and the pair have qualified for the British Dressage Regionals at Medium and Advanced Medium level.

The eventing side of things is also going well for Abbie, even though her Advanced horse is currently out of action.

At Winkleigh, Take a Chance, owned by Alex Hansford, competed in his first BE Intro this year and finished on his dressage score of 26. Abbie has to ride 'hors concours' at this level as she is an Advanced rider.

Haze Surprise, at Novice level for the first time, came a creditable sixth to the delight of her owner Trudie Jenkins.
