Ask Again took the Mixed Open at Cotley to delight Sarah West, enjoying her first winner on her second ride since breaking her elbow in a Larkhill fall in January. "He didn't go as well as he normally does when fresh when I rode him at Flete Park a fortnight ago. I had him revved up today though and he's jumped very well, apart from getting close to the last. He probably won't run again this term but I'm glad I've ridden one winner this season", smiled Sarah, now on the 30-winner career mark.Jimmy Derham took the main riding honours with a double on Austin Approved (Restricted) and Catch You Later (3 mile Maiden). The former finished alone after Lourd Hymn (Jimmy Cole) and Tricky Tangler (Dan Drake) departed at the penultimate to give Callington first-season trainer Sandie Newton her first-ever success. "We bought him as a foal and he won a 2005 Stafford Cross Maiden when trained by Emely Thompson and Richard Woollacott", said Sandie, who was full of praise for Jimmy's handling of her 10yo. She added: "Jimmy gave him a beautiful ride and thinks he might have won even if the other two hadn't fallen".Catch You Later short-headed Artic Omen (Tom Cheesman) after the pair had duelled over the last four fences. "We bought her out of an advertisement in our local Blackmore Vale Magazine. She loves fast ground and her jumping down the back straight was probably the key", said Okeford Fitzpaine handler Richenda Snook, who trains the mare for her parents, Kevin and Marina. The win completed a 100% winners-horses ratio this season for Richenda - all four of her inmates have won - and took her seasonal tally to five.Jimmy Cole and Lourd Hymn's owner-trainer David Bryant had earlier enjoyed better fortune with Praise Hymn in the 2m 4f Maiden. "We made the journey here as we were sure that the stiff course would suit him", explained David, who is based at Bodmin. Sole rival Kiwi Royalty was level at the last, but Praise Hymn pulled 21/2 lengths clear on the flat.Len and Rose Vickery, owners of the 2008 Hunt race winner Kiama, retained the trophy when Emile Zola coasted home in this year's contest under trainer Charlotte Tizzard. "We bought him out of Venetia Williams' yard, although he's very small and looks like a little razor blade when we're hunting", smiled Rose.Rye Brook and Rachael Green easily landed their second win of the Bank Holiday weekend in the three-runner Countryside Alliance races for veteran horses. Lord Anner (George Fry) and Maximus (Ian Popham) shared much of the running, but the race was all over when Rachael pressed the button after the fourth last.Cotley Hunt at CotleyBank Holiday Monday 4 May 2009Hunt Members (2 runners) - 15 lengths.
