Bryony Frost and Hannah Welch maintained their stranglehold on the pony racing circuit at the Eggesford point to point. Frost revealed another stable star in Billie Jean, a pony who has only had one outing - and one win - in a more uncompetitive field. But the chestnut was well ridden to stay the distance and sliced through the field after the influential top bend and galloped on to decimate the field, winning by 20 lengths.

The other runners had a competitive battle for the places and a great run from Chester Williams' Clover Jess earned him second place ahead of Chloe Grove on Flareon, who looked a picture in the parade ring.

Welch got a flying start in the 138s and maintained the lead throughout. It was good to see new riders OIivia Hutchings and Edward Barlow in action and they will soon progress through the ranks.

The Dartmoor Hunt hold pony races before their meeting on Saturday at Flete Park (1pm) and riders should note that the second meeting there on May 1 features maiden trophies in both races and a trophy for the first 128 pony home. For more information go to www.devon24.co.uk/ponyracing
