OWNERS Andrew and Linda Pugsley certainly hit the jackpot when they purchased Fully Loaded last autumn for their daughters Lucy and Emma to start their race riding careers. The 10-year-old has proved a fantastic schoolmaster for the girls, and he was recording his seventh win of the season in the Novice Riders' race. Fully Loaded joined Paddy The Piper shortly after turning into the straight and took command on the run in. "He was deliberately ridden a bit closer to the pace this time", reported Gerald Greenway, who trains the gelding at Fitzhead near Taunton for his grand-daughters to ride. Lucy Pugsley partnered the gelding this time, and she has now steered him to victory on five occasions.
Polly Gundry rode her twelfth winner of the season when Dr Cerullo toyed with his three opponents to win the Hunt race, but she could only finish third in the Mixed Open with Rockwithacaveman, who failed to cope with Sheriff Roscoe and Askers Jack. Richard Woollacott took the odds-on favourite Sheriff Roscoe to the front in this race , and he was left clear when the pursuing Askers Jack blundered at the last. "We will probably keep Sheriff Roscoe to point-to-points for now", reported the connections.
Woollacott might have had a double with Karinga Coin in the Confined. Edward Darke's 12-year-old travelled well throughout the race and was alongside the eventual winner Beau Supreme when departing at the final fence. Owned by Rita Vicary, Beau Supreme is trained by Barry Sanderson and was well ridden by Lee Drowne. "He is a lovely horse and his jumping is brilliant", said the proud owner.
Jockey Neil Harris also had words of praise for his Intermediate winner Yufo. "I always knew he was a good horse since he ran over hurdles for Jeremy Scott", said Harris of the 10-year-old who beat the only other finisher Wynbrook by a distance. Yufo was a first training success for Nicky Martin who is based at Withypool.
Righteous Glory ran away with the Restricted under Josh Guerriero, shrugging off the challenge of King Of The Road with the favourite Tom Bach disappointing in third.
Heavy showers had got into the ground by the time the two Maidens were run, with the going changing to good to soft. Six-year-old How Are You Going had been knocking at the door in Maidens and duly landed the first division here under Michael Miller. It might have been a different story though if Isitanywonder had not slithered along the ground when challenging at the last.
Six of the nine runners had departed for one reason or another by the third fence in the other Maiden division, leaving Plasteredinweston to canter home with Matt Griffiths in the saddle.
