Over the past week three groups enjoyed gliding at North Hill during the evenings, writes Jill Harmer.

The South West region of the Porsche Club GB had organised one of their monthly social evenings at the club on Wednesday.

The lovely variety of Porsche cars were lined up for a photoshoot whilst their owners enjoyed their first flights in a glider with a social evening and barbecue.

Alan Stoneham, SW region coordinator, Porsche Club GB, said: “Another big thank you from the Porsche Club members. Great feedback. And wonderful to meet others with members as passionate about their club as we are about ours! We’ll be back – in my case as soon as Monday for my course next week!”

On Thursday, the Treborough Summer Camp group enjoyed their first flights in a glider led by new member Simon Pearson.

On Friday evening, a group co-ordinated by Jim Lodge had extended flights in the ridge lift.

Jim Lodge said: “I have been arranging parties of friends and colleagues to visit the Devon and Somerset Gliding Club for over 30 years.

“All of the club team are such super guys {and girls}, and it is always a great fun evening.

“Particularly rewarding is when first-timers come down and describe the moment when the glider releases from the winch: the silence, the calm, and the amazing view over the Devon countryside, with the sea in the distance. It is an evening which is different, exciting, memorable and with a team of such friendly enthusiasts.”

Summer evening groups are winding up for this season, but try gliding by starting with a trial lesson. Find out about trial lessons at Devon and Somerset Gliding Club; purchase and book online by visiting www.dsgc.co.uk.co.uk
