During the humorous speeches that followed superb fayre, tribute was paid to 'B' team captain Tim Avery who has agreed to take on the task for his fourth term, much to the delight of all of us 'B' team players.
Many pairs of feet were a blur, thanks to the musical accomplishments of skilled duo Apache. The music continued until midnight but it was at least a quarter past by the time I stopped moving, and by then I was halfway home in the taxi.
Ladies' section: At last we have managed to have a competition this year! It was a variation on a Stableford where if two points or more were scored they were doubled and if no points were scored two points were deducted, one point counted as usual. This produced some very strange scores. The magnificent total of our winner, Rosemary Whitely, was 61 points, second Trisha Swindell 58, third Andrea Squire 55, fourth Barbara Mullett 51, fifth Hentietta Bradshaw 50 and sixth Lesley Oxenham 49.
Senior Section: Despite the heavy rain it is thanks to the efforts of the ground staff that the course was open for this week's monthly medal. In Division 1 Peter Shepherd took full advantage with a net score of 69 to win by 2 clear strokes from John Discombe. Bill Spice, Pat Purtell and Bob Cleal occupied the other winning places, all with scores of 72.
In Division 2 Chris Street took the honours with a net 72 followed closely by Peter Edwardes and Steve Blundell, both on 73, and Derel Herrington and Peter Wells with 75.
Tuesday Mixed: Forty people played an American Stableford on a nice sunny day.
It was all very close at the end.
Jackie Seager-Alec Gosling 36 points; Elizabeth Ward-John Northover 36 points; Dot Grove-Terry Linsdell 36 points; Sue Ritchie-Peter Shepherd 36 points; Allen Seager-Gerda Brown 35 points.
