The Otter River Trail has become quite a popular race and with 226 competitors there were 80 more than last year, writes Dave Mutter.
There were four AVR runners who all knew a speedy start was vital so you did not get caught out on the narrow paths along the river at the start of the race.
The winner was James Denne 34.23. Eleanor Wood first AVR home in 44.33, 43rd and first vet 55. Angela Kerr running well was 121st in 55.26. John Mellowdew was 157th 61.27 and Martin Kerr 192nd, 67.07. At the end the runners were given a medal and a choice of local beer or chocolate. In the fun run the Eyre family did superbly well, Holly was first girl home and her younger brother was not far behind. Thank you, Sidmouth running club and Jo Earlam for such a lovely race.
Simon d’Albertanson had a good day out at Weymouth in the Gu Energy Weymouth Bay Half Triathlon.
He reports that the weather was far from ideal, swim OK, but strong winds and heavy rain on the bike led to a number of punctures and crashes (fortunately not for me).
As always it was quite a slow swim for me but a much quicker bike and a better run than last year. Last year on a similar course my total time was 6:25:49 so very happy with the improvement of 40 minutes by finishing in 5:44:34.
Another brilliantly organised event by Mark and the Bustin Skin team, great marshals and very clear signage throughout and a medal big enough to eat your dinner off.
