Father still has upper hand

The Sun Am Winter League round saw father, Phil Wall, and partner Andy Sharland beat son, Andy Wall and partner Spencer Macklin, writes Andy Wagner.

Tuesday Mixed Members enjoyed the first competition for 2012 - a good field playing a Rye Foursomes. The winners, with 38pts were Dot Grove and Andy Sharland. In second place, with 35pts, were Linda Northover playing with new member Bob Barnes. Third were Avril and Peter Shepherd with 33pts and fourth Lesley Oxenham and Paul Ritchie with 32pts.

Ladies Section: The Texas Scramble format, played by the combined divisions of the Ladies’ Section saw a determined effort to win by dream team Jackie Seager, Tricia Swindell and Henrietta Bradshaw who came in with a nett score of 69.3. Second went to Jane Watts, Mona Carter and Lesley Oxenham with a nett score of 73.8, third were Chris Luttman, Catherine Hunt and Dot Grove with a nett 74.8 and fourth Chris Pearce, Jeanne Mackinnon and Maris Dart with a nett 75.5.

Seniors’ Section: Seventy nine members contested the Seniors’ Medalford competition in frosty and soggy conditions, but only two played near their handicaps. They were John Kerr who came first in Division One with 17 points, and Steve Blundell who won Division 2 with 16 points.

The runners-up in Division One were Don Stroud, Keith Crane, John Martin and Vic Wood. The other Division 2 prize winners were Mike Jones, Dave Morgan, Paul Ritchie and Howard Clayton.
