Feel good factor - the sun
The annual Pro Am Medal is a PGA sponsored event that meant the winner got to progress to a knock out round at Saunton partnered by club professional Adrian Cave, writes Andy Wagner.
The honour was keenly-contested and although vice captain Dave Morgan was in contention, a seven at the last ruined his chances. The overall winner came from Div 1 with Steve Waller shooting a three under par nett 66. Stuart Selway took second with a 68 and Mike Williams was third with a 69. Div 2 was a tight affair with Buzz Harris shading it on count back from Keith Crane with nett 69s whilst Darren England had to be content in third with his nett 70.
?American Foursomes is always a popular format for the Tuesday Mixed Competition hence the large field taking part. This was the first week of the later starting time and, although colder than the previous week, most of the competitors managed to finish their round before the rain set in. In first place with 41pts on c/b were Lesley Oxenham and Max Pipe; second, also 41pts, were Jan Dickinson and Terry Dimond. Third place went to Carole Booth and Bob Barnes with 39pts; fourth with 38pts, were lady captain Jackie Seager and Laurie Tollemache.
? sixty four Seniors played a three-man team event in brilliant sunshine, which for some was the only feel-good factor. With one player scoring on the odd numbered holes and two on the evens, several groups scored well, the best being Brian Hoepelman, John Vessey and the infamous Pete Morgan. Pete has proved that he can win off his reduced winter handicap, but now that he has regained two shots for the summer he is the man to beat. They scored 66 points, edging out the captain's team of John Discombe, Mike Stroud and John Kerr by one point. John Lamb, Bill Nicholls and Dave Morgan came in with 60 points, just beating Stan Squire, Ron Jones and Keith Crane on countback
