Feniton boss makes the right substitutions as table toppers march on

Newtown 2, Feniton 3 A substitution with twenty minutes to play turned the game in favour of Feniton.

Trailing 2-1, the Blues boss Mark Kingdon withdrew himself and sent Ben Allen on.

The switch paid instant dividends as a corner was won and, when the ball was delivered into the six-yard area, Dave O’Connor powered a header home.

Ten minutes later Allen’s defence splitting pass set up Charlie Selley to finish in some style to wrap up a season double for Feniton against the Exeter side.

Andrew Jones, who scored the first Feniton goal, and central midfield partner Ben Ede were central to all the best of the table toppers play.

Kingdon said: “It was a very good win against an excellent team who made us work very hard. I am delighted that we have been able to show that we can also win games by digging deep. Good teams have that air of invincibility about them and I saw that in our performance at Newtown. We now look like a side who does not know when it is beaten!”

Feniton are in action tonight (Wednesday) when they try again to play an East Devon Senior Cup last eight tie with Seaton Town at Ottery St Mary (7pm).

On Saturday the Blues entertain Topsham Town who they edged out by the odd goal in three when the teams met at Coronation Field in late September.
