Feniton bowlers have a roller-coaster week!

There were mixed fortunes for Feniton’s bowlers last week, write Roger Smith.

First up there was defeat on all rinks at Chardstock and an overall defeat at 77-49.

However, the team retuned to form in defeating Culm Vale 93-81. The winning rinks were T Young, M Evans, G North and R Arundell (26-8), A Pritchard, L Crook, G Phillips and R Smith (19-12), D Phillips, E Cox, L Ley and D Coyne (8-15)and S Goodenough, B Halse, A Coyne and R North (1-19).

This success was short lived as they lost away at Bovey Tracy on all four rinks by 56-94.

However, the roller coaster week continued when they won on all rinks against Axminster by 99-59.

The winning rinks were M Evans, V Jones, D Phillips and A Kury (27-8), F Jones, B Halse, E Cox and I Veitch (27-13), R Crowe-swords, E Goodenough, R Veitch and D Evans (24-19) and A Hughes, J Skinner, G Skinner and J O’Sullivan (21-19).

The Finals weekend was a triumph for veteran Tony Kury.

In the men’s singles in a titanic struggle he came from 14-0 down to win by 21-20, by taking four shots on the final end.

He also defeated David Evans in the men’s handicap 28-21.

He then overcame Robin Cooke in the club singles by 21-16. In the ladies singles final Ruby Veitch defeated Glynda Blackmore by 21-15.

However, Glynda Blackmore triumphed in the ladies’ handicap 21-7against Gill Smith. In the mixed triples Don Conbeer, Avril Coyne and Ian Veitch won against Mike Evans, Di Phillips and Tony Kury, by 20-16.

The Husband and Wife competition was won by Richard and Glenys North who defeated Dave and Cara Sanders in another exciting match by 24-16.

David Evans and Eileen Rolph overwhelmed George Skinner and Jo O’Sullivan by 31-2 in the mixed pairs.

John Wheatley was unlucky to lose to Dave Sanders by three sets to one in the Sir John Acland competition.

The singles league final was an extremely close match, which went to the last end, with Steve Goodenough victorious against Dave Sanders by 103-97. Bonnie Halse won the Marjorie Ferguson competition defeating Cara Sanders by 21-7. In the Club pairs Glynda Blackmore and David Evans triumphed over Les Ley and George Skinner by 21-14.
