The Feniton Bowls tour to Eastbourne enjoyed excellent weather and the games played were pleasantly social events.

The Feniton Bowls tour to Eastbourne enjoyed excellent weather and the games played were pleasantly social events.

On the Friday, the tour visited Hampden Bowling Club and lost. On the Saturday the teams lost to Seaford BC, but beat Crouch BC. On Sunday the team visited Bexhill and Polgrave and lost both matches. The final day saw the team entertained by Atherley, again losing. In the evening, the Atherley club laid on a dinner at which the tour awards were made. The Player of the Tour was Kathy Jones.

The start of the penultimate week of the season saw the mixed team defeat Axminster by 77-62. The winning rinks were F Brooks, A Pritchard, G Blackmore and R Clarke 25-11; and F Jones, J Blackmore, G Skinner and J O'Sullivan 22-17.

Unfortunately, the next day, they lost to Honiton by 48-89, not managing to win a single rink.

However, this was followed by a close match away at Hemyock by 82-91. The winning rinks were T Pyle, J Mitchell, R Veitch and R North 21-13 and E Tuck, F Jones, T Young and L Ley 22-19.

Finals weekend started with a good win for Richard North who beat Roger Smith comfortably by 21-11 in the club singles final.

In the Sir John Acland Trophy Eddie Cox beat Stan Nevill by 3 sets to nil.

The husband and wife competition was won by Martin and Lyn Eveleigh who beat Ian and Ruby Veitch by 26-14.

On the Sunday, Paul Edmonds and Richard North defeated Martin Eveleigh and Roger Clarke in the club Pairs final. Paul and Richard took an early 11-0 lead, but they were pegged back by Martin and Roger to a lead of only two shots at 13-11. Before Paul and Richard then responded to win by 26-12

The Marjorie Ferguson Trophy was won by Ruth Clarke who beat Penny Gray by 21-10.

In the afternoon, Ladies Captain Judy Smith beat Lyn Eveleigh in a very close and absorbing contest by 14-13, in the Ladies Two-wood Singles Final.

The Men's Singles saw Martin Eveleigh beat Don Conbeer. Don took an early advantage to lead by 9-2. Martin responded and fought back to lead by 12-11, this provoked a reaction from Don who turned the tables to lead by 17-14. However, Martin showed steely resolve to win by 21-18.

In the mixed doubles final Jo O' Sullivan and T Young had a titanic battle with Avril Coyne and Graham Phillips before winning by the somewhat flattering margin of 28-14.
