Feniton brought the curtain down on a fabulous season in sensational style as they thumped Budleigh Salterton 7-1 in the final of the Morrison Bell Cup.

The Blues, who sealed their first ever Fresha League Premier title last month, have now won then Morrison Bell trophy three times.

A fantastic double winning campaign is tinged with slight regret in as much as their talented team will not be competing in the South West Peninsula League next season, despite crushing a team that finished third in the Eastern Division of the SWP League in the season just ended!

The reason for that is they were unable to put together an application in time to apply for promotion. However, the SWP League’ loss is the Fresha League’s gain for Feniton will once again grace the local league next season and bid to win back to back titles.

Manager Mark Kingdon said: “It’s a shame that we are not going up as I do think this performance against an established SWP Eastern Division side underlines just how good a side we have and I feel we would certainly hold our own at that level. That said we can only, try to win the Fresha again next season and get an application in to go up.”

Budleigh were already 2-0 down when keeper Adi Pullen was dismissed for a foul that denied a goal scoring opportunity. The Blues took full advantage of their extra man and powered their way to an emphatic victory.

Charlie Selley rifled in a first half hat-trick and the other goals were scored by Paul Dowling, Dave O’Connor, Andrew Jones and Ben Ede.

Kingdon said: “We played some great stuff and could perhaps have netted even more. It’s been a truly memorable campaign for the club with the Reserve side also landing their divisional success. Now we can take a short break before getting stuck into pre-season training in mid July.”

When asked if he was hoping to bring any summer recruits, Kingdon replied: “Yes, I would like to freshen things up. We have a very talented squad of course, winning the title proves that. However, you can never stand still in this game and if I can bring in one more attacking option and also a left sided defender then I feel we will have even greater competition for places. One thing is clear, I sense the lads are keen to get back to business and repeat this seasons success, after a much deserved break, of course!”
