Feniton 0, Buckland Athletic 5 The Blues were unceremoniously dumped out of the Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup by the South Devon side.

However, the final score does scant justice to the work the Acland Park side put in, despite being without five regulars, including the heart of their usual solid defensive line!

Manager Mark Kingdon, so often quick to praise his players, did vice his angst on this occasion saying: “It’s a shame that some of the players did not see this particular fixture as being as important to the club as I did! I am disappointed with one or two who were unavailable for whatever reason. This was a huge game and, whilst I have said all along that the Fresha league title is the main target this term, cup runs, especially in the main County Cup, really are very important to the club.”

Feniton fell behind to a harsh penalty decision when Alex Frankpitt was adjudged to have felled a Buckland player. Soon after falling two down Andy Jones cannoned a shot off the upright.

The killer blow was the third that the visitors’ netted just before the break. Feniton were sharper in the second half and they again hit the frame, but they were undone twice more, each time by a long punt down the middle of the pitch.

Kingdon said: “It was not the bets of days, but the key now is to bounce back and that’s what I am sure we will do against Clyst Valley on Saturday.”

That game at Acland Park on Saturday (2.15pm) sees the Blues host a visiting side that has won just twice in the league this season, but both have been away as they have banked all three points on visits to Exmouth Amateurs and Topsham Town.”
