Fresha League Feniton had more reason than most to be frustrated with things on a rain hit day across the league, writes Steve Birley.

The Blues were left, along with all but two of the other sides in the nine division league kicking their heels, but in their case they had a ground that could have staged a match!

Blues boss Mark Kingdom explained saying: “We had feared the weather might cause a problem for our scheduled hosts Heavitree United, amongst others, and suggested to them that if their pitch in Exeter was unfit we’d have a great chance of getting a game on our seemingly weather-resistance Acland Park surface (the Feniton pitch is renowned for being available for action long after any other ground in the league have been declared unfit). However, on Saturday morning the Heavies duly had their ground deemed unfit but then declined the chance to come and play us. We put a call into Tiverton Town in the hope that their Reserve side who have played just eight of their 28 Premier matches so far, might fancy coming to us, but they too rejected the chance as did Beer Albion.”

Kingdom continued: “It was very frustrating as I felt our pitch would have been playable, but no one wanted to play us!”

To compound the Feniton frustrations, this coming Saturday they are the odd team out in the top flight of 15 team sand so will not have a game. However, Kingdom is keen to get his side some action in preparation for their massive game they have the week after when they go head-to-head with title rivals St Martins.”

Kingdom explained the move saying: “I am very keen for us to get a game in before the St Martins match. The father of Josh Fenwick who plays for us, is the manager of South West Peninsula League Premier Division Camelford and I think efforts are being made to bring them to Acland Park. If it were to come off it would be the perfect match for us. That St Martin’s game is huge, there’s no escaping that fact and I don’t want is to go into it having not played for three weeks.”

Feniton were hit by sad news last week with the passing of chairman Colin Bishop who had been suffering fro illness. Blues boss Mark Kingdom said: “Colin was such a very special person and he had been chairman for as long as I can remember. He was always so approachable, a really nice guy and he is going to be so missed. Our hearts go out to his family and we will honour Colin in the appropriate fashion at our next game.”
