Feniton skipper Jon Pyle scored his maiden century in his teams C Division East win over Filleigh.

Pyle was joined at the wicket by Mark Kingdom with the Acland Park side a troubled 115-6 halfway through their 45-overs.

With Kingdom batting sensibly at one end the skipper opted to take the attack to the visitors and he did so with real gusto! No further home wickets fell and, when the bails were removed for tea, Pyle was not out 122 having faced just 77 balls! With Kingdom unbeaten on 26, the pair had added 144 for the unbroken seventh wicket and enabled their side to close on 259-6.

After tea Filleigh batted and were soon in trouble thanks to a superb spell from Matty Davies who finished with five wickets for 33 and Canadian Adam Ramcharran claimed three wickets for 40 runs to see the visitors all out for 170.

Pyle said of his century: “I felt good whilst batting and was chuffed to finally get a century under my belt. Kinger (Mark Kingdom) batted well and we got the team into a position that I felt, at tea, was one where we could win the game. The question was could we claim all ten wickets to make it a full house of points and we did just that. Matty (Davies) and Adam (Ramcharran) bowled very well.”

With four games to go Feniton are safe in a mid-table berth. Pyle says: “There’s still plenty to play for and I am not one to say, that because we cannot go up and won’t be dragged into a relegation scrap, our season is dead. Far from it! I want us to bag a top four finish and that, given the problems we had back in April with worrying about getting a team out and who would skipper etc, would be areal achievement.”

On Saturday Feniton entertain a Seaton side that is in a similar ‘safe’ mid-table position.
