After suffering a serious illness during the summer, Liam Roberts has gradually returned to fitness and this Saturday raced in the first Birmingham league fixture of this season - a 10.9km affair in Leamington.

He finished in 53rd from a field of 267 in 38:22; 40 places and 2:24 better than last years race (which used the same course but was run in the opposite direction). The event was won in 34:46.

Things are hotting up in the AVR handicap series. November’s races were the penultimate for the year and Max Bowskill won the junior event in 16:34, followed by Caitlin Bee, 17:10; Katie Coates, 18:43; Andrew Watson, 12:01 and Josh Coates 12:20. It’s tight at the top as Liam McLean is ahead with 149 points, Josh Coates 2nd 146 and Mollie Hansford 3rd 124.

congratulations to Kim Vine for winning in 31:52. Beth Sibley was Second, 33:26; Teresa Coates third, 30:00; Kay d’Albertanson fourth, 29:54 and Clare Hansford fifth, 27:15. Gill Day is the leader of the senior group with 155 points, Tim Sibley second, 134, Steve Reynolds 3rd, 131 and Clare Hansford 4th, 127. Look out for fireworks next month to sort out those minor placings.
