So the ladies have done it again! Carole Fisher and Sue Evans played at Paignton in the final rounds of the Devon Ladies' Pairs. In the first match, strangely called a semi-quarter final, they met Barbara Bellamy and Terri Kennard and were victors by eight shots. Next opponents were the Tucker girls, Hannah and Laura, who were overcome by a seven shot margin. So, to complete a tough day, they played their third game against Mo Thomas and Hazel Combe of Brixham, winning this splendidly by eight shots. During the game Carole and Sue scored a maximum eight shot "hot-shot" - which obviously came in very handy! They now take the club's congratulations and best wishes to the National Finals at Leamington on August 5.Hoping to accompany them were Yvonne Rayner and Joan Heard, who also reached the Paignton finals day, but were eased out in their first match by two ladies from Dawlish. The two rink ladies' team in the County Inter-Club Trophy had to travel away to Paignton, Torbay, in the second round of the competition, where they easily overcame the home side with a 30 shot advantage after only 14 ends when the match was conceded.R Hirons, P Hackwood, A Hillyear, S Evans 19-9; Y Rayner, C Nex, D Broughton, S Hiscocks 25-5.There was little distance to travel to meet Hemyock in the latest round of the Grace Matthews Top Club and once more the ladies put on a first class display of bowling to complete their route to the County quarter finals. They triumphed 4-1 in disciplines. 2 wood singles R Hirons 17-6; 4 wood singles C Fisher 21-19; Pairs D Broughton, S Hiscocks 23-7; Triples Y Rayner, C Nex, B Harris 13-20; Four R Barwick, P Hackwood, A Hillyear, Sue Evans 22-7.The men have kept the flag flying in the County Triples, where Fred Cowey, Dennis Hillyear and Steve Dommett have earned the club's representation in the Devon finals at South Molton on July 11, by winning the section's qualifier. Bowl well fellows! The men had a very convincing win against Axminster in the County Top-Club competition, winning all five events. The next round is against Madeira on July 3.Results: 4-wood singles: T Pipe 21-2; 2-wood singles: M Dart 21-14; Pairs: F Cowey, D Hillyear 27-10; Triples: K Large, S Dommett, M Sellick 20-13, Fours: T Tooley, G Mahoney, G Selvey, R Binmore 22-11.It was mixed fortunes for the men in the County Trophy after going down badly against Madeira, losing on all rinks and with a 57-shot deficit. Things were brighter against Seaton, who are currently vying for top place, with the Honiton men winning on both home rinks, drawing on one and losing by just one shot on the away rinks, giving an overall shot difference of plus 13.All three Honiton men's teams are competing in the same division of the over-60s Exeter and District Triples League. There is much competition within the club for the best placing, and that honour goes to the C team.
