Division 1

Flamingos 53, Tip Top Trees 8

OPG 37, Uplowman 9

In their last fixture of 2012 just before Christmas Flamingos were drawn against Tip Top Trees, and as luck would have it the fixtures had them drawn against each other again for the first fixture of 2013, writes Graham Ingram.

Flamingos were looking to maintain their 100 per cent unbeaten run, whilst 3T’s aims were more modest – their first point of the season.

As it transpired it was Flamingos who left the happiest with their unbeaten run secure, whilst the Trees were still searching for that elusive first point. With Karen Hall in fine form at GS Flamingos were 17-4 ahead at quarter time, and 31-4 up at half way. Although 3Ts worked hard, especially Abi Webber at GD, they could not stem the Flamingos’ tide, with 3Ts finishing on the wrong end of the 53-8 scoreline.

Second placed OPG were up against Uplowman who were in 3rd place, and needing a win to keep in touch with Flamingos. At quarter time OPG were 10-2 in front and by half way were 19-2 ahead. With Tracey Moran in great form, OPG controlled the game and going into the final session were 30-7 up. Although Viv Grant was playing well, the Uplowman side were no match for OPG on the night and OPG finished victors by 37-9.

Division 2

Otter Valley Dairy 23, Water Babes 9

Howden Hawks 19, Sidmouth Toucans 33

Hi Q 37, JD Tyres 17

Top side Hi Q were looking for their 10th win in 10 games when they came up against a JD Tyres side who have been having a good season. The first quarter saw Hi Q gain a 10-5 lead before moving 22-7 ahead by half way, thanks to great play from Bev Parris. The third quarter was even, going goal-for-goal, with Jenny Bryant doing well for JD. At the start of the final period JD looked to be in with a chance of a point as they trailed by 29-14. The final quarter belonged to Hi Q as they outscored the Tyres to finish victors by 37-17 to retain their unbeaten run.

Sidmouth Toucans were hoping to keep up the pressure on third-placed JD when they met Howden Hawks. Hawks started well to lead 8-7, but by half way Toucans were 15-12 in front. With Helen Terry playing well at GA Sidmouth increased their lead to 23-15 going in to the final quarter. They continued to dominate, despite good play from Jill Partiss for the Hawks and finished the night winners by 33-19.

Final match saw new teams Otter Valley Dairy and the Water Babes meeting again with the Babes looking for their first point. OVD quickly moved into the lead, 8-1 at quarter time and 12-3 by half time. With Roseanne Dyer looking strong at GA they didn’t look back finishing the night with a 23-9 win despite good play from Amber Doughty for Water Babes.
