The Honiton seniors’ Good Friday competition was opened up to all male club members to allow them a game on the Bank Holiday, and a total of 70 players took part, writes Andy Wagner.

It was played as a four ball better ball competition, but with each team member allowed to count only nine of his scores.

There was a keen wind on a cold day and it was expected that the temporary greens would keep the scores low.

Not so. The winners, John Fleetwood and Colin Hughes came in with a 49, followed by John Discombe and Fred Thomas on 47.

Keith Crane and Peter Blake scored 45 and the last two prize-winning pairs both had 43 points.

They were Brian Morrison with Michael Hunt and J Marker and G Chivers.

John Fleetwood made the only two of the day and won 48 balls.
