FORTY more football teams headed to Colyton than last year for the annual soccer tournament hosted by Colyton Youth Football Club and was the most successful ever. Over two sunny days, 112 teams competed from as far afield as Swindon and Bristol, Weymouth and Plymouth, alongside familiar guests from East Devon.Colyton Chairman Tony Love said: "The early figures show that revenue from entry fees and catering is massively up on any previous year. This is vital to the club, which survives mainly on this annual event. I'd like to thank all the parents who supported us in mounting a remarkable weekend."Winning teams came from across the region, with local victories for Seaton U7 and Lyme Regis U9, and more distant triumphs for Highworth U10 from Swindon, Minehead U12, and Tamarside U14. Colyton Boys U13 were unlucky to lose out on penalties to Beacon Knights, but Colyton Girls U13 won their competition, beating Bishops Lydeard in the final.Pictured, Chris Way of tournament sponsors CRW Accountants, presents winners' medals to Colyton U13 Girls.
