Allen nets as Feniton win at Sidbury

Feniton had to come from behind before banking the Division One points in their East Devon derby at Sidbury where they won by the odd goal in three.

After slipping behind to a goal that was down to some sloppy Blues defending, they were level at the break thanks to a Paul Dowling strike.

Shortly after the re-start, Ben Allen slotted home what proved to be the winning goal. Feniton boss Mark Kingdon said: “We were under-par in the first half and fell behind owing to some slack defending, but, to the teams credit, they sorted it out and, in the second half, we played some smashing football and I felt were worthy winners.”

Kingdon was speaking to the Herald the day after the Blues win from a sun-kissed beer beach! He said: “Having spent the summer dodging rain showers in cricketing whites and now we are into the football season it seems unbelievable that in early October we can pack up and get off to the beach, but that’s what we’re doing and the sea water is very pleasant!”

The Blues are in Devon Senior Cup action on Saturday with an Acland Park game against Phoenix. Kingdon says: “They (Phoenix) are an unknown quantity to us as they are new into the Division this term. We have a few niggling injuries and I shall probably shuffle the pack as, although we are fully focussed on the cups, our priority has to be the league campaign.”
