Axe Valley Community College Girls clinch East Devon School Games girls’ football title.

The Axe Valley Community Grammar College have been crowned champions of the East Devon School Games girl’ football.

The girls’ travelled to Exmouth for the second round of the competition haing won the first round back on November when they finished top of the of their section with 16 points.

At Exmouth there were a further 20 points per team to play for with the other teams in contention being; Uffculme (14), Exmouth (8), Honiton (6) and The Kings School with 5 points.

The Axe Valley girls began with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Uffculme, but bounced back to defeat Exmouth by the same score line.

Next up were a Honiton side that had won their first two games to become a rival to Axe Valley for the top honour.

Axe Valley won a close contest 2-1 and that left them going into their final game knowing that only a win over Uffculme would see them crowned champions.

The girls’ made a fine start and controlled the contest from the opening exchanges, going on to win 2-0.

The goal scoring across the competition was shared by Poppy Hill and Devon Ellis. Another key player was goalkeeper Min Dack who made some vital saves throughout.

The girls’ now head for the County Finals being held in March.
