Axminster Town launch a new era as the 2015/16 football season kicks-off this evening (Wednesday) with the opening pre-season match against Exmouth Town.

Tigers’ chairman Ray Self is delighted with how things are developing on and off the pitch at the clubs new Tiger Way home.

New manager Richard Pears has been able to cast his eye over some 40 players who have been attending the weekly sessions at the club and there’s no doubt that the three senior sides should be well stocked with quality come the start of competitive football early next month.

On the summer work, Self says: “It’s been so encouraging. Everyone is pulling together and there’s a terrific spirit both in the dressing room and around the club in general.

“What has been so good to see is just how many people want to get involved. For me the key has been the creation of various sub committee’s that look after each particular section of the club. In Vic Holland we have found a commercial manager to make the most of some superb facilities. The structure is right now off the pitch and, in new manager Richard Pears, we have, in my humble opinion, the ideal man to take us forward on the pitch.”

With regard to the fact that so many players have been at pre-season training, Self says: “It’s going to mean selection headaches for the respective managers!”

Tonight’s game with the South West Penisnula League Premier Division side kicks-off at 7.30pm.
