On a match that they will want to forget quickly the Tigers came upon the best team they have played this season.

On a heavy surface that only just edged a pre-match inspection the Tigers were outrun by a younger, fitter team that had the desire to want the ball.

Town started brightly and squandered a chance in the second minute. In their first attack the Chumleigh winger sent over a cross which floated over the keepers’ head and into the net.

By the 17th minute Axminster were three down and were being overrun by a better team.

Some changes were made to the shape and Axminster held their hosts at bay until the 25th minute, when they scored their fourth and that was how it stayed until half time.

Chumleigh only scored one more goal in the second half, but the margin should have been many more.

Axminster remain second in the league, but if they cannot field a regular team, it is only a matter of time before they lose any chance of promotion.
