Colyton go further clear at top of Fresha Two after Somers goal sees off Crediton United

Colyton needed only a single goal, scored by Callum Somers to see them to another three points in Fresha League Division Two as they won 1-0 at home to Crediton United Reserves.

The current Colyton result statistics make pleasant reading for followers of the Tanners.

A fifth straight win, second successive clean sheet, a fourth shut out in their last eight league outings and 30 points out of a possible 33 from their last 11 league matches keeps the Colyton promotion bid well on course.

Their cause was aided by second placed University losing for just the second time this season – beaten 3-1 by vastly improved Chulmleigh – and they now hold an eight point lead over the students.

However the biggest threat to their title chances looks to be Upottery – one of three teams to defeat Colyton in the league this season – who sit a dozen points adrift,. But have played six games fewer.

That all suggest that when then pair meet a fortnight on Saturday (January 31), at Glebe Park, Upottery, the outcome will have a big bearing on the destination of the section’s top honour.

Before the Upottery game they must first host Newtown on Saturday and then travel to Chulmleigh seven days later.
