Dunkeswell Rovers were 4-1 winners on their midweek visit to Sidmouth Town thirds and that means the Dunks now need to win their final three games of the league season to be crowned Macron league Division Five champions.
Dunks took the lead at Manstone Lane with a 30th minute strike from Steve Morris and a far post header from Josh Cann doubled the advantage before the break.
It was master-marksman Morris who made it 3-0 in the second half, but the home side pulled a goal back only for the three-goal margin to be swiftly restored when, after great work by teenager Joby Mabbutt, the ball was tucked away by Tom Cligg.
The Cligg goal was the 95th scored by Dunkeswell Rovers in what is now a 30 game season for the team.
Their remaining three games are, away at Culm United on Monday, May 6; away at Exmouth Spartans (who currently top the table and, what ever happens for the Dunks at Culm, a point for the Spartans will see them win the title), and finally the Dunks have a Saturday, May 11 home meeting with Bravehearts.
Dunks joint boss Brian Cann said: “That's another game ticked off, three to go, three cup finals, and the lads are ready for the battle, there's a confidence, a belief, a hunger about them, a never say die attitude, which bodes well, and with the returning Max McKeown, available after suspension, it is all positive.”
He continued: “That said, I insist we'll be keeping our feet firmly on the ground, starting away at Culm on Monday afternoon, with perhaps just one eye on the key match next week against Exmouth, but one game at a time!”
