Feniton stay second in the Fresha League Premier Division after claiming a sixth top flight away win of the season with a 2-0 success at Newton St Cyres.

Fenny welcomed back Kieran Johnston and Stuart Blackmore, both returning from injury, but were without Paul Dowling and suspended player manager Ben Ede.

On a pudding of a pitch both sides tried playing passing games and both sides had good spells with the ball, but the first half produced rare quality and the only game arrived just before the break Dan Norman delivered a free-kick to the far post where it was bundled home by Louie Dyer, making his senior team debut after a string of impressive performances in the Fenny Reserve side.

Not for the first time this season, Feniton began the second period sluggishly and that allowed Newton both time and space with ball. The only way home goals were kept out was via some last-ditch tackling!

Feniton improved as the game wore on and made sure of the points when a slick passing move involving Lewis, Frankpitt, Norman and Allen ended with a Ben Johnson shot being parried into the path of Kieran Johnson who slammed the ball home with a right foot volley.

The winning margin would have been greater had Norman not put a second half penalty wide.

A watching Ben Ede said: “On a difficult heavy pitch we did enough to warrant taking the three points. We weren’t at our best as we gave the ball away too easily and gave Newton too much respect. Having said that I’m delighted at another victory and very pleased we are forming a winning mentality. I thought Alex Frankpitt and Dan Norman worked extremely hard, but for me, the Man of the Match had to be Phil Everett for another outstanding performance. Since he’s been back from injury he’s made a massive difference and he has a calming effect on the other players.

Feniton: Kingdon, Sellick (Jefford), Everett, Simic, Southall-Brown, Price (Johnston), Frankpitt, Allen, Dyer (L Ede), Lewis, Norman. Sub not used: Blackmore.
