Feniton all set for Willand opener

PUBLISHED: 07:54 27 August 2014

Feniton begin their Fresha League season tonight (Wednesday) with a visit to Willand Rovers Reserves.

The Blues, once again managed by Mark Kingdon, will be hoping for a season similar to the one before last when they were involved in the title race right up until the closing weeks of the campaign.

They warmed up for the Willand opener with a 6-0 at another Mid Devon Ground, Bickleigh where Charlie Selley scored three times.

Feniton head into the new term without last year’s skipper Dave O’Connor who has been lured away by Tiverton Town Reserves, but Kingdon is confident his side will cope with the loss.

He says: “Of course it’s disappointing to see him (O’Connor) move, but he has gone now and, as grateful as we are to him for all his efforts on our behalf we must mow look forward. I believe this season will be similar to the last one in as much as the destiny of the top honour will no doubt depend on the outcome when the top four or five teams play each other. It’s those ‘big games’ which will be pivotal.”

The new man to skipper the side is Ben Ede of whom Kingdom says: “He’s a leader and I have no doubt he will prove to be an inspiration with the arm bad. The lads have trained well through pre-season and I feel they are ready to have another serious crack at landing that top honour of the Fresha Premier League title.”

After tonight’s game the Blues are next in action at home to Wellington on Saturday, September 6.
