Hales at the double as Axmouth United see off University

Axmouth United bounced back to winning ways with a 4-0 success over visiting University.

United made a click start and went ahead in the third minute when a Reece Hales cross was turned past his own keeper by a defender. Seven minutes later Hales stroked home a penalty awarded for a foul on George Harwood by the keeper who was fortunate to stay on the pitch!

The students looked for a way back with a long-ball game, dealt with in some comfort by a confident United back four as the home side got to half-time in a degree of comfort.

After the break a Harwood corner was headed home by Luke Morrison to make it 3-0 and then, when Morrison was felled on the edge of the area, Hales rifled the free-kick into the far corner of the net to complete the scoring.

The student fitness showed late on as they came back strongly, but solid defending and good handling by home gloves man Brad Cross kept them at arms length and ensure United bagged a clean sheet success.

United boss Laurie Forino said: “That was a great team performance and we got just what we thoroughly deserved. I don’t think they were expecting our desire and commitment and couldn’t handle our play at times and in contrast to the previous we took our chances in fine style. We must keep that up as this is clearly a tough division and we need to keep winning to get clear of the scrap at the bottom.”
