Honiton Devils Under-11s were 4-1 winners in their Exeter and District Youth League KO Cup meeting with Ottery St Mary.
The Otters began brightly, but were kept at arms length by some splendid tackling by Ewan Evans and, when he was out-foxed, goal keeper Freddie Richards delivered the goods.
After both Sam Foster and Dominic McCreadie-Taylor had gone close a crisp passing move led to McCreadie Taylor providing the assist and River Leisk firing Devils in front.
The Otters responded well and, with six minutes, were level. They pressed for an interval lead, but got little chance out of Elliott Holdsworth, Lee Pulman and Jai Freemantle at the heart of the Devils defence.
After the break, with debutant Joe Evans linking up well with skipper Zac Harrison and Sam Cottingham making his presence felt in midfield, chances began to be created. Hayden Owen went close before Leisk and Foster combined to set up McCreadie Taylor to net with a left foot strike.
Connor Brown rifled home a 20-yard free-kick to make it 3-1 and scorer the turned provider as Brown set up McCreadie-Taylor to beat the off-side trap and net the final goal.
River Leisk was named the Devils Man of the Match.
Devils boss Sean Brown said: “I was very impressed by the all-round Devils display against a good Ottery side. What was so encouraging was that the whole team are now showing their ability and enthusiasm to play as a team with confidence. I am very proud of them all.”
