Honiton Town finally got to play before the Mountbatten Park faithful and they did not disappoint as they chalked up another clean sheet Fresha League One success, beating Bickleigh 3-0, writes Steve Birley.
Matt Brown took the individual honours, bagging the Hippo’s Man of the Match award as well as netting his fifth goal in four starts this term to give his side the lead.
The Mid Devon men proved a resilient outfit and much of the contest was fought out in the middle third of the pitch.
Home keeper Matt Long had a relatively quiet afternoon with much of his inactivity down to the sterling efforts of Steve Trenchard and Darrren Witt, who was once again industrious in the centre of the midfield, played a part in the lead being doubled with Joe Mulhall scoring the first of his two goals – his second was a sweetly struck free-kick.
Town boss Kev Blackwell said: “We always had a measure of control in the game. We might have netted more goals, but I can’t be displeased with three at one end and a clean sheet at the other.”
On Saturday the Hippo’s face Newton St Cyres. Blackwell says: “Last year they proved to be a fantastic footballing side. This is a game that will certainly be a challenge for the lads, and we do owe them (Newton St Cyres) one for last season!”
Blackwell misses the game this weekend – he’s going to be in New York on his honeymoon! Time permitting whilst touring the Big Apple he will no doubt be keeping in touch with events via text!
