Honiton Town had another swathe of club matches called off across the Easter weekend with games lost to the rain on both Saturday and Monday.

The latest postponements compound a growing problem of a build-up of games with the football season well into its closing couple of months.

With just four Saturday’s left before Town’s home at Mountbatten Park gets ‘switched’ into cricket mode for the start of the Devon League, which begins on the first Saturday of May, there are no fewer than 25 home matches still to be completed by the three Town senior teams!

Both the Town second and third teams have only completed half their respective Macron League Division Two and Eight campaigns! They each have 14 matches still to play with, in both cases, those remaining games being nine home and five away.

With the first team still having nine of their South West Peninsula League, Eastern Division games to play – seven of them at home.

The third team’s fixture list as detailed on the FA’s full-time website shows the team having 15 matches listed to be played in a period of just of 33 days! Indeed, they are facing one five-day spell in which they will play four games! That said, with the Mountbatten playing surface being turned over to cricket in early May it does seem as if some of the remaining Hippos home games may well have to be played ‘away’!

It all means a hectic end-of-season for the Honiton Town players!
