Honiton Town suffer another postponement with loss of midweek meeting with Alphington

Honiton Town have been forced to postpone yet another home fixture as their Mountbatten Park home is once again unfit for action meaning the postponement of their South West Peninsula League Eastern Division meeting with Alphington.

Also off is the Hippos third team home game in Macron League Division Eight when they were meant to be meeting Sidmouth Town.

However, by mid-afternoon the second team game against East Budleigh in Macron League Division Two remained on – though, owing to the pile up of remaining fixtures the Hippos second team had been forced to switch heir ‘home’ game to the home ground of their opponents!

The loss of this latest home game for the Town first team means they still have eight matches to pack into what remains of the SWPL season.

The Hippos have work to do to avoid a bottom two finish and possible relegation back to the Macron League.

As things currently stand, the SWPL season has been extended to Saturday May 12.

This weekend Town have a Sunday fixture with Torridgeside the visitors to Mountbatten Park (2pm).

If life is getting tough for the Town first team then it is positively hectic for the club’s third team who still have no fewer than 18 games still to play in their Macron League Division Eight campaign.

To date, the Hippos third team have only played three home games in their league season and so have no fewer than 11 home and seven away to play between now and what is currently their final game, the May 16, home meeting with Culm United Reserves. That’s an incredibly busy period of

On Saturday (April 14), the Town third team are away at Okehampton and, if that game goes ahead, it will be followed by the team playing 17 games in 32 days!

Town’s second team (playing tonight at East Budleigh), face 12 games in 30 days and so, you factor in the Hippos first team’s final eight games before the Alphington match, it means that the three Town teams are going to be playing 39 matches over the final 35 days of the season!
