Honiton Town Under-11s win well at Twyford Gladiators

Twyford Gladiators 1, Honiton Town 2

Honiton Town Under-11s were worthy winners on their visit to Tiverton.

Honiton took some time to settle into the game as they battled a strong and chilly wind as well as a useful home side.

Gladiators threatened, but found Town gloves man Oliver Turl to be in fine form.

The deadlock was broken by Town when Becky Rose challenged the home goalkeeper and the ball broke to Matthew Ward who fired home.

After the break Town played with the wind in their favour, but a lapse in concentration early on saw the hosts draw level with a well struck shot.

Town were quickly back onto the front foot and the lead was restored when the home keeper, under pressure from Caleb Freemantle, failed to collect a bouncing ball that ended up in the net.

The home side came back strongly, but the Town defence held firm to see the game out.

This was arguably the finest all-round team show of the season, but special mention must be made of the contribution from skipper-for-the-day Shane White, along with Dan Loosemore, who made a vital goal line clearance late on.
