Honiton 5, Colyton 2

Honiton Town Under-15s under the management of Helen Freemantle, aided by coaches Brett Sellick and Josh Gribble, were worthy winners of their opening East Devon Youth league game.

Honiton made a superb start and took a first minute lead when a superb cross from Dylan King was tucked away by Harry Leisk.

Ben Nursery thought he had doubled the lead, but a linesman’s flag for off-side ruled the effort out

With the Honiton defence of looking solid there was little opportunity for the visiting side and a 35th minute goal from Blake Freemantle doubled the lead.

In the final minute of the first half Fremantle and King combined for the late to send Honiton into the break three goals to the good.

Eight minutes into the second half Colyton reduced the arrears, but the three-goal margin was restored when Mason Rhode curled a corner into the net.

A Tom Olive free-kick was turned home by Tom Olive to increase the lead an despite Colyton bagging a second with 20 minutes to play Honiton closed the game out well to take the points.

Jake CD, Cody Knight, Kieran Pike and Harry Taylor had fine games in defence for Honiton, but the Man of the Match award went to Dylan King.;
