Seaton Town 2, Feniton 2

Honours ended even after a thrilling East Devon derby at Colyford Road, writes Steve Birley.

The Blues travelled to Seaton looking to preserve their unbeaten start to the Fresha League top flight season, but they only did so by levelling deep into stoppage time at the end of the contest! Martin Hancock gave Town a first half lead, cancelled out by Charlie Selley before Alex Wheatley restored the home lead. Town were then reduced to ten men and created two excellent chances to win the game, but both times were denied by superb saves by Feniton glovesman Matt Kingdom. It was not until deep into added time at the end of the game that Dave O’Connor fired past Dave Perham in the Town goal to preserve the Feniton unbeaten record.

Glen Gould had a fine game in central midfield for the home side. Seaton coach Keith Somers said: “It was a cracking game. It’s probably the first time this season we have produced what I’d call a ‘proper’ performance. That said we have had a terrible time with injuries this season, but this sort of show proves that we are a very capable side.

Feniton boss Mark Kingdon said: “Credit to them (Seaton), their position in the table belies the quality in their team. Playing at Colyford Road is always tough so rather than two points dropped I’d prefer to think its one gained and only at the seasons end will we see if I am right on that score!”

Feniton gave a debut to Dan Jewell who played alongside Mark Simic at the heart of the Blues defence. Kingdom said: “He (Jewell) is a class act and it speaks volumes for us that we have been able to secure his talents. I have also got Dan Norman available to us fro this coming weekend and that will, further boost our options.”

On Saturday Feniton entertain Hatherleigh Town whilst Seaton Town entertain the Premier Divisions last remaining 100 per cent record when they tackle St Martins.
